What is a Low Carb Cruise?

Post by jackiee on Wed May 27, 2009 1:48 am

Please forgive me if this has been addressed elsewhere and I just didn't see it, but what is a Low Carb Cruise. I assumed it meant that they didn't serve high carb foods. I found out that isn't the case. Do we need to sign up through the links posted for the low carb cruise or can we just sign up with Carnival Cruise?

Hi Jackiee,

First, you will need to sign up through the links to get the group rate -- which includes all the taxes and fees, plus a ship-board rebate of between $50-$75 per cabin when you get on board. IF you sign up through Carnival directly, then it doesn't help our group when it comes to booking a private meeting room for our guest speakers & presentations.

THEN -- about the food... There are a LOT of low-carb choices, including low-carb cheesecake & REAL icecream made with splenda. You can have steak, lobster, & fresh cooked-to-order veggies 24 hours a day INCLUDED in your ticket price. Since we will make up only about 100 of the 2,500 guests on the ship and some of our low-carb guests are bringing spouses / family / friends who are NOT low-carbers, we all have to just sort of encourage each other and eat as our conscience allows. hahaha. Just stay TOTALLY away from the 24-hour Pizza & Ice Cream Buffet!!!

Jimmy did a GREAT pictoral blog about the foods -- and if I can find the link to it I will post it for you. He showed how it is possible to eat WELL and still eat low-carb AND lose on a cruise.

We are planning a "Cruise Loser" challenge to try and encourage each other to stay on plan. We will compete as a "group", with prizes for the overall team losses each day.

Hope you can join us. Just let me know if you have any further questions!

Just a side note:

Last year my sister went with me and she was NOT a low-carb fan. I couldn't not have gotten her to go with me if it was LOW CARB food only. She WAS a low-fat convert for years -- with high blood pressure & high cholesteral. She believed all the rumors & myths about LC dieting.

After the meetings and hearing the statistics, the doctors & authors, & talking to individuals, she decided to learn more about it and she tried it. She is now at her lowest weight in years ... and her husband's cholesteral went down almost 30 points.

She watched what the low-carbers ate compared to what she was eating. She watched them have a lot of energy.. etc.

Pretty cool.

This sounds great. I have been carb counting ever since becoming a type 1 diabetic when I was 14. I just came back from one of my best trips to cancun mexico but unfortunately there were no options for food whatsoever. For me that meant having to eat even smaller portions than normal and testing my blood sugars even more frequently. I look forward to learning more about this LC cruise. Cool

Also... we have several doctors and low carb experts going with us. They REALLY care about the low carb community and are very helpful to answer our questions.

There is just something about a group of people giving support that really helps us all keep focused on what is healthful for us!

Hope you can join us!
